The seventh inter-Korean cabinet meeting
produced a 10-point statement including taekwondo unification.
South and North Korea will push for exchange of taekwondo delegations.
The South's delegation will visit Pyongyang around mid-September
and the North's delegation to Seoul around late October.
The Organizing Committee of the Busan Asian Games and North Korea's
Olympic Committee will hold working level talks to sort out procedures
for the North's participation in the 14th Asian Games, including
the carrying of the torch form North side.
It is reported that a Member of International Olympic Committee,
Chang Ung will assume the next President of the International
Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). On 20 August 2002, Chang Ung will
hold talks about unification of Taekwon-Do with Un Yong KIM who
is a Member of International Olympic Committee, President of the
World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and the General Association of
International Sports Federations (AGFIS) in Monaco.
On 16 August 2002, Mr. Sen Jea Hun, a Presidential special aide
of the WTF said “According to the will of Choi Hong Hi who
was president of the ITF and passed away, it is known that Chang
Ung will assume the next President of the ITF. Naturally, on 20
August the next President of the ITF, Chang Ung and Un Yong KIM,
President of the WTF are going to discuss about exchange and unification
of ITF and WTF.
It is said that ITF was established by Choi Hong Hi, the Founder
of Taekwon-Do in 1966, and it has been developed on the worldwide.
WTF was established by Un Yong KIM, President-Founder of the WTF
and Taekwondo has been chosen as an Olympic event.
Recently, the son of Choi Hong Hi, secretary general of the ITF
emphasized his legitimate post as the next president of the ITF.
Some others of the ITF are ready for action to take the next president.
But before the death of Choi Hong Hi, Chang Ung was appointed
as the next president of the ITF by Choi Hong Hi. Subsequently,
Chang Ung and Un Yong KIM, the heads of Taekwondo will talk about
exchange of taekwondo, unification of ITF and WTF in Monaco. It
will be a historical event between ITF and WTF.
