The president of Italy's
Taekwondo federation, Sun Jae Park, has been elected as interim
president of the World Taekwondo Federation. The election came
at a meeting of the WTF Executive Council in Bangkok where the
resignation of former president Un Yong Kim was accepted.
Park will serve until an extraordinary general assembly is convened
in June to elect a permanent replacement for the remaining year
of Kim's presidential term.
Kim resigned as WTF president last month in the midst of an investigation
by prosecutors in Seoul. He has since been indicted on bribery
and embezzlement charges and is being held in jail. Kim has also
been suspended from his duties as a vice president of the International
Olympic Committee pending the outcome of the charges in Seoul
and an inquiry by the IOC's Ethics Commission.
