On October 23, 2002, a North Korean Taekwon-Do
delegation arrived at Yin Chon international airport of South
Korea in the morning. The leader of the delegation, Chairman of
the North Korea Taekown-Do Committee, Mr. Hwang and the members
of the delegation were warmly welcomed by the president of the
South Korea Taekwondo Association and many people.
The North Korean Taekwon-Do delegation, comprising 13 male and
8 female athletes, officials and journalists checked in the Sheraton
Walker Hill Hotel. 41 members of the delegation are staying in
seventh floor, and the leader of the delegation is staying in
a deluxe suite room. Same evening all of the members were invited
to present a welcome party hosted by the president of the South
Korea Taekwondo Association.
On October 24, the athletes of the delegation made a brilliant
performance, and made great success to show ITF Taekwon-Do in
Seoul and moved South Korean people. The performance was comprised
of Patterns, Sparring, Special techniques, Powers and Self defences.
A Taekwondo manager of the SUMSUNG GROUP said that North Korea
Taekwon-Do keeps traditional techniques, their Sparring looks
like actual fighting. Knees and elbows can be weapons. The performance
was amazing. Our Taekwondo is one of the sports now, but ITF is
one of the martial arts. I felt the power.
The evening of the October 24, all of the members of the delegation
attended a party hosted by Dr. Un Yong Kim, the president of the
WTF. According to the trip schedule, the athletes of the delegation
will have their second demonstration on the October 25 afternoon.
The members of the delegation will take part in a farewell party
hosted by the South Korea Taekwondo Association after their second
demonstration.
On October 26, the delegation will return to North Korea after
a brief sightseeing tour in Seoul.
